Guadalajara locals see Ajijic as cottage country and quite often visit Ajijic to spend a relaxing weekend on its shores. If you want to do some sightseeing, the village itself is already an attraction. The interesting architecture, the famous adobe walls, and the colourful flora and fauna can leave you wandering around the village investigating different magical alleyways and paths for hours.


You can hire a boat and sail on Lake Chapala. Go horseback riding along the lakeshore or hike up the mountain to the famous chapel or the waterfall. Spend part of the afternoon at the Racquet Club and play tennis on clay or hard courts. After a long day of practice and rehearsals, wind down at one of the many beautiful spas or thermal baths in the neighbourhood, including the renowned Monte Coxala. htpp://montecoxala.com.

There are a plethora of cafés, restaurants, and bars in the village. Festival participation includes three meals a day, but if students wish to venture on their own in search of more local cuisine, they will encounter a wonderful variety of options. From local taco stands to fine dining, the village has a diverse selection of cuisines.

One hour from Ajijic is Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, the second largest city in Mexico and the home of mariachi music. You will find numerous tourist attractions that you can visit on your days off. Tours into the city will be organized for those interested, and some students will be invited to perform in Guadalajara. If you travel one hour farther, you'll reach another famous town, Tequila.
